Designing Your New Construction Home

Designing a new construction home can feel overwhelming, so the first step is to envision how you want to live in each room of the home, along with the colors and styles that bring your vision to life. For this home, we emphasized a modern farmhouse style, using warm neutral palette with accents of blue color.
Choosing flooring is an essential first step. Our client wanted a versatile brown—neither too light nor too dark, with no red, orange, or yellow undertones. We selected a balanced, neutral brown that brings both warmth and sophistication to the space.
When selecting paint colors, we recommend a cohesive neutral throughout the main floor, with the exception of smaller spaces like the powder room or office, where bolder tones can make a statement. A powder room is perfect for playful wallpaper that adds an element of surprise! Bedroom colors, on the other hand, should reflect the personal style of the individual occupying those rooms.
In the kitchen, we chose timeless white cabinets with black accents, coordinating them with a neutral countertop and backsplash. This combination, accented with black and gold metals, brings an elegant touch. Light fixtures, featuring a mix of metal and glass, were selected as the home’s “jewelry,” elevating the space while adding functional beauty.
Furnishing the home is all about investing in quality, especially for high-use spaces like the kitchen and family room. Upholstery should be durable, with cushions that can withstand daily use, and fabric selection should prioritize resilience to wear, tear, and potential stains. Case goods, like tables and cabinets, need to handle regular impact, while maintaining style. In addition, furniture should blend with the overall design of the room and coordinate with the concept of the main area.
Accessorizing is where the fun truly begins! We kept it simple and uncluttered, adding pops of blue through pillows and throws for a subtle, cohesive accent. Artwork can bring in more diverse colors, and we encourage choosing pieces that stand out rather than match the room’s palette. Sometimes, a well-placed piece of art can fill a space more meaningfully than additional furniture!
